#106 January of the Soul + Writer's Challenge

Happy Blog Day Everyone!

Getting back into the swing of things once again now that we're halfway through January, still haven't got *all* systems operational yet, so anyone waiting for more Short Diversions will have to wait till at least next week.

I'll be talking about that subject a little bit more once we've seen what that lovable pair are up to!

The Comic Tales of Brennan and Riz

Poor Brennan, tries to get all philosophical (not quite sure if that was pure nonsense mind!) and Riz isn't even listening! Sigh, what is the world coming to these days

While I think Brennan could do with a haircut, I think I struck gold with that pose of Riz’s at the end. All that I should have added was a straw so he could have drank that last bit of drink under him! What can you do?

Writer's Challenge

Last week, I briefly mentioned my goals for the draft I'm currently writing (indeed I've gone back to it now that the holidays are fully over and that things are relatively back to normal). For those who can't remember, I set the goal of having the first draft done by end of February, with an eye to completing the whole thing by end of May. What I didn't share was how many words that would need writing. To start with, I'm aiming for the standard 90k total. I'm fully expecting to go over and that is fine! The more I go over, the more wiggle room I have during the editing process...Or at least that's the idea!

Currently, I'm looking at over 34k to finish this draft (before I go back with sculpting tools to see what I can drag out!). 34k is a lot in what is essentially 6 weeks...That said I think I'm going to attempt something...crazy. I know last time I said this back in '23, I was attempting to write 3 short stories at the exact same time. Ironically I guess only 1 of them ever saw print, so get ready for them to hit the blog at some point. Anyhow, back from the tangent I almost lost myself to, my crazy idea is to treat the time to the deadline as a mini NaNoWriMo, just instead of a 50k goal, mine is 34k...spread over the remaining weeks till 1st March. This should be doable and comes in at somewhere between 800-900 words and day, so about an hour writing time. This should be manageable, especially since I have some pressing non-writing for leisure matters to attend to, and I wish to bring back Short Diversions, possibly next week if the right idea pops into my head. My aim with these ones (if only the ones till March) will be the definition of short, like half a page to a page kind of deals. More involved then what I currently write daily on social media.

With that said, I wish I could talk more about the current draft, as I've got a lot to say about a story that was already written eighteen years ago (!), prodded then jettisoned so it could be completely rewritten from the ground up and then almost changed utterly. However, as there would be spoilers for the, very close to release, first book, probably best to wait. The third book is going to be a doozy to write, I can tell you that much

I best leave it there before I bore you all too much.

Till next time,

Keep on writing!
