Yes, another in-between post, I know you're all aware of the pattern by now! Chapter 3 is ready for next week, and I've only got one picture left to sort out as well, so everything is on track.
What's not on track is chapter 8, which I've had to rewrite sections of not long after writing them in the first place. Not usual for me though, is that it wasn't anything to actually do with the plot this time. Whereas before (and I've wrote about it often enough) I'd wholesale delete huge sections of text, if I hadn't just restarted the whole thing, this time I was looking at the actions of a single character and how they came across. I was trying to work a particular angle with them but I ended up pushing things too far. On the plus though I established some common history with the characters that hadn't existed in any prior draft. That was nice.
Before that little bit of a rewrite, I did start the section featuring a fan favourite character and its actually more difficult than I thought it would be. Since the story is set a number of years before Daemon Soul, I have to be quite careful with his characterisation and what he reveals. I've brought him in now to balance things out, which makes me getting him right all the more important. Will this gamble pay off? We'll see when we reach chapter 8 in a fair few Wednesdays time.
On the Brennan and Riz side of things, I haven't broke ground on a new Brennan and Riz short yet because I can longer find the source I was basing it off, which is a bit of a downer as I'd planned out quite a fun opening for it. So, I'm going to have to pivot to a different story...once I've made my mind up on which one. I've got a list of story ideas written down, so not that I lack ideas, but I need to find the folklore/urban legend that speaks to me.
Speaking of those two...
The Comic Tales of Brennan and Riz
Part 2 is here, and straight up, didn't realise till inking that I'd essentially copied myself with the third panel from last week...Dammit.
That aside, it was pointed out to me (by my son no less), that an April's Fools comic may have gone down better...Double dammit. In fairness though, it would have messed the schedule up a wee bit, need this to end Easter week!
That's all for this short, dull week, chapter 3 of Avalon Tales drops next week, and there's pictures to come!
Till then,
Keep on writing!
